I have to start this post by stating that I’m about to base my idea on one single event and one meal enjoyed in this restaurant. It may be an unfair representation of the restaurant as a whole but for me it was more than enough to help form an opinion.
I recently ate a truly overpriced Sunday brunch at the Temple Kitchen. For three people with coffee, hot biscuits and one brunch item each we had to foot a $100 bill. It seems fairly unreasonable for small portions and an unspectacular taste experience. I had “Vedas choice” which consisted of a smoked salmon and poached egg croissant and a hand-full of roasted potatoes. Also at the table were “huevos Monty” – refried beans with cheddar toasted in between two tortillas topped by a fried egg sunny side up and a tablespoon of salsa- and “Miss Biederhofs pancakes” – three blueberry buttermilk pancakes, lightly drizzled in maple syrup with a dollop of whipped cream.
After a 45 minute wait just to get to our seats in this giant 100+ seat restaurant, we were faced with another 10 minute wait for the server to even approach our table to offer us drinks and an introduction. However, this way did give us a chance to take in our surroundings. The restaurant features an open kitchen where all the plating occurs and from just a superficial observation the atmosphere is very relaxed and food focused. The decor is minimalistic with modern seats and tables, an industrial feel to the whole room matching that of the up and coming Liberty Village setting the restaurant is in.
Overall, just as stated before, based solely on one experience the Temple Kitchen is not somewhere I would return anytime soon. I’d be very curious to see what their dinner or lunches consist of but I’m not ready to foot the bill anytime soon.
